New Wisconsin Auto Insurance Laws Unfriendly to Drivers

Comments Off

The Wisconsin Commissioner of Insurance has issued a summary of Wisconsin’s new auto insurance laws: oci.wi.gov/bulletin/0711act14.htm. The new rules favor insurance carriers by increasing the proof necessary to establish uninsured motorist coverage in so-called "phantom" hit and run cases, reducing mandatory limits for uninsured and undersinsured motorist and medical payments coverage, and allowing reducing clauses and eliminating stacking of insurance policies. The new rules reduce insurance carrier exposure and therefore reduce the recoveries available to injured motorists.
